Part of the curriculum to finish my degree in college was to undergo on-the-job training for a certain amount of time. While my friends were scrambling to get in at Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and other manufacturing companies, my close friends and I aim for something else. We wanted to get in at PASAR. PASAR stands for Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corporation. They are a copper smelter and refinery plant located in Leyte. We did get in and boy was it a fun and enriching experience. We were given our own rooms with free meals plus salary. It was hard work but I loved the experience. The picture below was taken after a day of work at the smelting plant (if I am not mistaken). It was hot in that area but it was what I liked best. I had to wear steel-toed boots, hard hat, googles, and respirator for safety. I was clumsy at first, not being used to such, but I got used to it and eventually came to look forward to wearing the things if you can believe it. I had plans of applying for a job at PASAR after I graduate but somebody had other plans for me. So here I am, a stay at home mom, jobless (thankfully not penniless, lol), with little bosses I have to wait hand and foot every day instead of working at a lab or getting my hands dirty working at a manufacturing plant. I have no regrets though. I love my life now and I will not trade my family for the world. A career for me can happen later when they are grown.
