a late present

One of the husband's grandchildren had a birthday this month. He wanted me to order something for the child but I could not think of what to buy. There was not even enough time to do it because he told me to do it just days before the event. I told him since we do not have enough time to have the present delivered and that we do not know what to buy in the first place, to just send money to his daughter and let her make the decision. I though we already agreed on that so I was surprised when he said he didn't do it. Then blamed me for not reminding him. Huh? I could just have sent the birthday girl one of the cheap chocolate gift baskets I have seen online. She might like the chocolates and it would have saved me the stress I had to deal with being blamed for something I did not do. But all is well now. We will be visiting in a few weeks so we will just make it up to the little girl when we get to see her.
