fond memories

One of the best memories I have of the town I grew up in was the fiesta. It is a few days long celebration where there are stores on the side of the roads, an amusement park built just for the occasion, the peryahan (carnival) where there are a lot of games you can join in the hopes of winning money or maybe a set of plates, and of course, food everywhere. As a kid I loved the cotton candies while my parents always went after the popcorn vendor riding on their trikes with their own popcorn machines running all the time. Imagine the smell of popcorn lingering in the air. The laughter, the winning and losing, the sound of the nearby disco ground where the balikbayans socialize along with the locals who are attending the dance. The chance to bump into somebody you know and haven't meet in a long time. Those were memorable times. Even if the money was scarce is was still fun and everybody looks forward to it every single year. Hopefully and in God's will, we want to be there for the occasion so my boys will experience the traditional Filipino fiesta.
