closed captioning

The other day I was surprised when I turned on the television and saw that there were texts in the bottom of the screen. I learned later that the words are transcriptions of the audio portion of the program we watched, called closed captioning. My son likes to watch television shows this way for some reason. And he knows how to do it by accessing the buttons on the television screen itself. No he doesn't know how to read much less talk coherently yet. But for some reason he knows which button to push to make the words appear. I kinda like it too. It makes me catch the words I didn't hear good from the audio when I watch the news. Only the husband doesn't like it and resets the tv to its normal setting.
